Details of the Graduation ceremony schedule will be published as soon as possible online and will be available to you during the week starting 14 October with your invitation to formal registration for graduation.
If you are expecting to finish your studies soon and graduate at one of the ceremonies on Thursday 12 or Friday 13 December 2019, then you need to respond to our Expression of Interest email by 8 March and then complete the formal registration booking process on the RISISweb portal from mid-October – 3 November 2019.
You may not have received your results yet but we need to know now if you wish to attend so that we can try to accommodate you and your guests.
If you do not register, we will assume that you do not wish to come to graduation and you will graduate in absence.
If you graduate in absence you cannot ask to attend a later graduation ceremony.
Doctorate degrees
Please note if you are a student studying for a Doctorate then the deadlines may not apply to you. The Graduation Office receives monthly updates regarding doctorate students but if you think you will be ready to graduate in December 2019 and should therefore receive an invitation, please email graduation@reading.ac.uk as soon as possible.
I would like to attend my ceremony
If you would like to attend your graduation ceremony, please register on the RISISweb portal by Sunday 3 November 2019.
When you register, you can request up to two guest tickets for the Great Hall. If you did not express your interest, please apply for guest tickets during this formal registration process by Sunday 3 November 2019 and we will endeavour to accommodate you and your guests.
You can provide details of any guests with disabilities or mobility difficulties.
I will not attend my ceremony and want to graduate in absence
If you do not wish to attend your graduation ceremony please register on the RISIS web portal by Sunday 3 November 2019 and confirm details for your certificate and the postal address where you would like your certificate sent.
I would like to defer to a set of ceremonies in the future
If you are unable to come to your graduation or will not finish your course in time, and wish to defer your graduation to a future ceremony, please confirm this during registration on the RISISweb portal by Sunday 3 November 2019. You will then start to receive information about our July 2020 ceremonies from mid-February onwards. Please note that by deferring your graduation to our next set of ceremonies in July 2020 you will also defer receipt of your Degree Certificate and Diploma Supplement documents to this time, as you cannot receive these until after you have formally graduated.
How and when will I get my certificate?
If you are coming to graduation you will receive your certificate at the ceremony at which you graduate.
If you register to graduate in absence your certificate will be posted to your home address in the weeks after the graduation ceremonies have been held.
If you fail to complete graduation registration then your certificate will not be sent out until you have contacted us directly with your confirmed delivery address. Please note we only hold onto degree certificates for 12 months from the date of the graduation ceremony before securely destroying them. If you do not contact us within this time then you will be liable to pay a replacement degree certificate charge when requesting your certificate at a later date.
Where will I graduate?
The ceremonies take place in the Great Hall at the University’s London Road campus. Parking is available at the Whiteknights campus and there will be a frequent free bus service running between the two campuses throughout the day.
Graduands and guests with mobility difficulties or disabilities can email graduation@reading.ac.uk to discuss possible alternative parking arrangements and/or access needs. We ask that you contact us as soon as possible so that we have as much time as possible to consider and implement any special requirements.
What happens next?
After you have registered for graduation, you will receive a confirmation email.
If you registered to attend your ceremony you will be contacted in early November to confirm guest tickets and any further updates about graduation.
