This process is called module selection and takes place in October/November for most new students, and in mid-April for returning students. Undergraduate students in their first year and those on an integrated foundation programme will be prompted to make semester 2 module selections between weeks 5 and 7 of semester 1.

Students from every discipline and year, including foundation, are welcome to study our 20-credit language modules. The Disability Advisory Service (DAS) provides guidance to current students and applicants who register due to a disability, specific learning difference, long term medical or mental health condition.
The team can provide support for your disability or condition including a number of possible adjustments that could be discussed with a Disability Adviser.
If you think you might need support for teaching, exams or any other aspect of the academic year then you can register with DAS to talk to the team at any point in your academic year, but you should aim to have that conversation as soon as you can.
If you are an applicant who selected Reading as your firm choice through UCAS, or you are a returning student, you will be prompted to register for semester 1 exam adjustments by 15 August 2024.
If you are an applicant who selected Reading as your insurance choice through UCAS, or came through Clearing, you will be prompted to register for semester 1 exam adjustments by 13 September 2024.
You will be prompted to register for semester 2 exam adjustments by 29 November 2024.
To give you the best possible start to your course, we encourage you to complete Study Smart, a free online course that we’ve created especially for our new undergraduate students.

Welcome to the University of Reading
This year Welcome Week will take place from 23 - 27 September 2024.
Welcome Week offers new students the chance to explore Reading, learn about life on campus, make new friends and settle into your new home.
This is also a great time to explore extracurricular opportunities and what the Students' Union societies will be offering throughout the academic year.
Many activities can contribute to your RED Award. Collect experience and volunteering hours in the community towards your accreditation.
The Welcome App will be available to download in September to help plan your schedule.
New students are encouraged to attend your School introduction sessions as a priority. Create a schedule of your preferred welcome activities in the app.
Returning students are also welcome to attend any intro sessions or welcome activities as a refresher.
Week 1 teaching will commence on 30 September 2024 for most students.
Enrolment is the process by which you officially become a student of the University of Reading.
New students must complete 2 stages of enrolment: online and in-person.

Returning undergraduate students
Returning undergraduate students will receive a semester 1 timetable on 4 September 2024 and a semester 2 timetable on 11 December 2024.
New undergraduate and foundation students starting in September
New undergraduate and foundation students commencing their studies in September 2024 will receive their semester 1 timetable on completion of enrolment and, where applicable, module selection options. Semester 2 timetables will be published on 11 December 2024.
Programmes with early start dates
Students on programmes with early start dates, e.g. Institute of Education PGCE programmes, will receive their semester 1 timetable on 21 August 2024 and their semester 2 timetable on 11 December 2024.

November
The halfway point in your first semester is a great time to reflect on what you’ve learnt so far, focus on your independent learning, and prepare for upcoming assessments.
Typically, there will be no scheduled teaching sessions, although your department may run activities to enhance your programme, such as field trips and student conferences.
December
Class of 2024 winter graduation ceremonies will run from Wednesday 11 – Friday 13 December 2024.

At the end of a module, we gather feedback from students via module evaluation forms. It’s a chance for you to work with us to improve the design and delivery of modules.

Your exam timetable will be published in December, no later than the end of week 12 of semester 1. We recommend adding your exams to your university calendar, so you can view them in the app with your teaching timetable.

Winter vacation will run from 23 December 2024 until 17 January 2025.
January
The semester 1 assessment period will run from 20 January until 7 February 2025. Exams will only be scheduled during the assessment period. You may complete other types of assessment at other times in the semester.

In February, we open applications for new STAR mentors. STAR mentors are returning students who volunteer to buddy with new students during their transition to University life.
Being a STAR mentor is a very rewarding way of making friends, gaining voluntary experience and helping others along the way.

The Student Progress Dashboard displays your completed and outstanding assessments, what your progress looks like and how this attainment compares to the goals that you can (optionally) set for yourself in your current part and academic year.

Degree classifications for finalists are formally published following the University Awarding Board. Marks for finalists are published individually to the student's RISIS web portal at the same time.
Results for Parts 1 and 2 will be emailed to students and later published individually to the student's RISIS web portal following the University Progression Board.

Class of 2025 summer graduation ceremonies will commence on Tuesday 22 July and run until Wednesday 30 July 2025 (not including Saturday 26, Sunday 27 or Monday 28 July).

If you do not pass a module on your first attempt, you will be contacted about your options to undertake a resit exam or assessment.
For students who need to resit after results have been released in September/November 2024, all resits will take place in the semester 2 assessment period 26 May to 13 June 2025 inclusive.
For students who need to resit after results have been released in June/July 2025, all resits will take place in the August assessment period 22 August to 5 September 2025 inclusive.
