Assistance with your studies and exams

Achieve your goals with the right support

Sometimes things don't go to plan. You may find yourself in a position where you need a helping hand to make that deadline or grade.

It's normal, and we want to ensure you have access to the necessary support required for you to achieve your end goals.

The scenarios below may help you find the relevant support to overcome your challenges.  We encourage you to pursue all forms of support available here.

    I am not coping with university and all my studies

    We encourage you to pursue all these points of support to help you achieve your goals.

    Your Academic Tutors

    Your academic tutor is there to support you, and is the best person to talk to if you have concerns about your studies. They can also signpost you to other support if needed. You can also talk to your School Director of Academic Tutoring or your Department Director of Academic Tutoring.

    Student Support Coordinators

    You can talk to your Student Support Coordinator for assistance and guidance on teaching and wellbeing issues. They can support you with a range of queries including help with submitting extenuating circumstances forms, transferring to a different course, taking a break from your studies, submission of coursework and exams, and will be able to sign post you to the correct department for all other queries.

    Reading Students' Union Academic Advisers

    You can contact Reading Students' Union specialist Academic Advisers if you need confidential, independent or impartial advice on a range of academic issues, including, extenuating circumstances, suspensions, fitness to study / practise, course transfers, and appeals. We offer an holistic approach which ensures that you are fully informed on the range of options available, so that you are empowered to make the best decision for your circumstances.  We are proud to be accredited by the Advice Quality Standard (AQS).

    Peer Support

    Sometimes, you just prefer to talk to someone who's either your own age, or has experienced the same as you. Reading has many peer-support options available to you.

    I am not feeling well and need assistance

    Here are some options for assistance. Please use these support mechanisms to help you with immediate assistance, general support and long-term wellbeing.

    Looking after yourself and NHS Resources

    If you are severely unwell, please call 999 or go straight the to closest Accident and Emergency Department.

    The closest Accident and Emergency Department to University of Reading Whiteknights campus is : Royal Berkshire Hospital Accident and Emergency, Departmental Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust Centre Block Craven Road, Reading RG1 5AN.  Telephone: 0118 322 7019

    If you have a medical concern that is not an emergency, we recommend that you contact your GP or call the NHS non-emergency number 111 for advice.  

    The International advisory team

    Support for our International students. The International Student Advisory Team are there for you if you are feeling homesick or if you need help settling in to life and studying at Reading.

    Counselling and Wellbeing

    If you are worried and need to talk to someone, The University Counselling and Wellbeing Team offers a free confidential counselling service.

    Reading Student's Union

    Reading Students' Union offer a confidential advice service that is independent from the University. They are able to support you and advise you with any concerns and challenges you may be facing.

    Student Welfare

    The Student Welfare Team are able to help you with a wide range of personal issues. They are able to support and advise you, and have drop in sessions available for you to access help quickly.

    I am unable to submit my assessments on time
