Student Services over the Summer Vacation

Over the Summer vacation, the opening hours of our services will be changing. However, do not worry! You will still be able to access the help and support you need during this time.

We have provided a summary of the opening hours of our services so you will know how and when you will be able to access the support you need.

You can also find out more about the personal support and resources available to you on Mental Health and Wellbeing and access to urgent and emergency help should you need it.

Student Services over the Summer Vacation

The Accommodation team will remain open all throughout summer, with no closure period. 

The Accommodation team can be contacted via email accommodationonline@reading.ac.uk at or by phone at 0118 200 5011.

The Halls Hotline (0800 029 1984 / reading.helpdesk@upp-ltd.com) remains open 24/7

 

 

Campus Jobs will remain open throughout the summer, with no closure period.

Counselling and Wellbeing will be open over the summer vacation.

Usual working hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. 

Additional support over the period is available via the 24-7 Support Line and Wisdom App support line open every day including bank holidays.

The Disability Advisory Service will be operating as usual and will be open during these times over the summer vacation:

Monday: 10am -4pm
Tuesday:10am-11am and 1pm-2pm
Wednesday- Thursday:10am-4pm
Friday: 10am-11am and 1pm-2pm

 

DTS will be available over the summer vacation (Saturday 13 June - Sunday 20 September) for digital and IT support 

IT Counter, Library 1st Floor:

Mon-Fri 8.30am to 5pm (closed weekends during vacation)

Greenlands Campus IT support: 

Mon-Fri 8am to 6pm

The Out of Hours Service Desk telephone service will be available throughout the holiday period, including the August Bank Holiday Monday. 
*Note: tickets that cannot be completed via phone will be escalated to the next working day.  

 

The Hall Wardens are open as usual during the whole of the summer.

The office will be closed all day on 2 July due to a team away day.

Students can still call the 24/7,365 operational halls hotline on 0800 029 1984 or Security on 0118 378 6300 and if appropriate those teams will call out the duty Warden.

The 24/7 Helpline 0800 023 2466 operated by Health Assured is still in operation over the Summer Vacation.

The International Student Advisory Team will be open as usual except for closure days and bank holidays. The team will still be offering appointments, telephone calls and they will be available through the helpdesk.

The library opening hours will be changing from Friday 12 June, when we will close at midnight, before moving to the following opening hours:

Monday - Friday: Open 08:30 - 17:00

Saturday - Sunday: Closed

 

The exceptions to these hours are as follows:

Open | 08:30 - 17:00 | Saturday 18 July, Saturday 22 August and Saturday 19 September 2026

Closed | Monday 31 August, when we will be closed for the Bank Holiday

 

If you need to return a Library book while the library is closed, you can use the external Book Drop located to the right of the Library entrance. 


Reading Students' Union will have the following closure dates and hours:

Merch store

Monday: 13:00 – 16:30
Tuesday to Friday: 11:30 – 16:30
Closed from 1/9 – 17/9
Reopen on 18/9 (time to be confirmed)  

The Welcome Desk will be open Monday-Friday 9.00am -5.00pm 

Mojos will be closed over the vacation period and will only be open for Open Days and Graduation.

Up Coffee Shop will be open 10.00-14.00 Monday –Friday with extended opening times for Open Days and Graduation. 

 

 


Student Finance will not have drop-in sessions during the summer period and will be appointments only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings depending on staff availability.

The Student Services Reception will be open as usual - 10am to 4pm on weekdays - all over Summer.

The Study Advice appointment service is available in person and online all year round apart from University Closure days and Bank Holidays. Appointments are available Mon-Fri 9am -4pm.

Study Advice can be contacted by email at studyadvice@reading.ac.uk, this will be monitored during the vacation. Appointments can also be booked via their website during this time.

The drop-in service is semester time only so will finish at the end of teaching time in semester two and restart after the vacation.

You can contact Study Advice by phone on 0118 378 4242. This still be available during the vacation despite the desk in the library being closed during this time.

 

From Monday 15 June to the Thursday 20August, all support centres will be open Monday to Friday from 11am to 3pm for in person enquiries.

Outside of these hours, you can contact us by phone Mon-Fri 10:30am to 4pm or via Ask a Question.

The Welfare team will be open during the summer period but will be unable to accept drop-in services.

Report and Support is also available to use over the summer. Report and Support is an online tool for reporting issues of harassment, bullying, sexual misconduct, hate crimes, and other problematic behaviours. Students can either report with their name and details to receive support from the University or report anonymously.

24hr Student Support Helpline: We have partnered with Health Assured to offer you a 24/7/365 confidential telephone helpline to support with any personal questions, worries or advice you might need as a student at the University of Reading. You can call 0800 023 2466 to access the 24hr support helpline. You can find out more about the helpline and the different ways you can access the services on Essentials.

Student Space is open every day throughout the Christmas period and has great resources and helplines.

Urgent concerns about your mental health? Call the Berkshire NHS Crisis number 0800 129 9999

If you are feeling suicidal or desperate to talk to someone, you can call the Samaritans for free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 116 123.

PAPYRUS is the national UK charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide and offers a telephone and text service on 0800 068 4141. The service is staffed by trained mental health professionals 10:00 – 22:00 weekdays and 14:00 – 17:00 at the weekend.

Out of hours support

If you need support outside of working hours, the 24hr Student Support Helpline can provide you with free, confidential advice 24hrs a day, 365 days a year. You can call 0800 023 2466, or live chat via the Wisdom app.

If you'd like to talk to someone in-person, Berkshire West Breathing Space offers a safe, supportive and welcoming space for anybody experiencing emotional distress. They are open every day of the week, including Bank Holidays, 17:00 - 23:00. Call 0800 002 9091, or email breathing-space@together-uk.org.
