Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that are officially recognised in the UK are called either “recognised” or “listed” bodies. Recognised bodies are Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that can award degrees.  The University of Reading is a “recognised body” and verification can be found on the Government Website.  Please also refer to the University’s Governance pages for further information regarding the University's Royal Charter and Ordinances.  These can also be found in the University Calendar.

Regular and appropriate attendance has been a University requirement for many years, as outlined in our current Regulations for Conduct and Statement of Learner Responsibilities.

It is an external UKVI requirement that Universities monitor the attendance and engagement of visa national students. Persistent failure to comply might put a student’s visa status at risk. The University’s Careers Service offers individual support and advice, information regarding jobs and vacancies, online information and resources and careers fairs/workshops.

The University of Reading utilises the Secretary’s Default Management Plan in its efforts to reduce student loan default for Title IV Federal Aid.

To be eligible for US Direct Loans, students must be studying a degree granting programme at least half time (i.e. undertaking at least 50% of a full time programme). Students must be physically in attendance at either of the University of Reading’s Whiteknights, London Road or Greenlands campuses in the UK to be eligible. Students undertaking a course via Distance Learning (or via any method involving telecommunications rather than physical attendance) are not eligible for Federal Student Aid.

A number of courses shown in the University’s Prospectus and under the Study section of our website are not available to International students on Tier 4/Student Visas. For a complete listing of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes available to students on Tier 4/Student Visas, please visit the International section of our Study pages and information for International students or contact us on usloans@reading.ac.uk for further information.

In addition, the following programmes are also considered ineligible:

• Programmes delivered at less than 50% of a full time programme

• Programmes delivered through distance learning

• Programmes with portions delivered by a partner institution that is not Title IV eligible

• Programmes delivered in the United States

The University is required, under US Federal Law, to confirm your attendance online through the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).  The attendance confirmation is reported every 60 days.

The University of Reading encourages eligible students to make use of Federal Loans in the first instance. The University is eligible to accept students with private loans and currently works with Sallie Mae.

The University’s Academic Progress Standards Policy sets out the standards for students at the University of Reading.

The University’s Disability Advisory Service provides support and advice for students who consider themselves to be disabled. They can provide information in respect of services and facilities available to students with disabilities, including specific learning needs. Federal Student Aid offers specific information relating to Title IV US Financial Aid including:

• Terms and conditions of Title IV, HEA loans

• Criteria for selecting recipients and for determining award amount

• Eligibility requirements and procedures for applying aid

• Rights and responsibilities of students receiving Title IV assistance

• Loan terms including a sample repayment schedule and necessity for repaying the loan

Your School/Department will provide information regarding required and/or recommended text books. However, reading lists are available for all students.
