Care Experienced and Estrangement Bursary

Find out about the extra financial support you could receive in the form of Bursaries and Awards.

Further Information

The Student Financial Support team will also provide financial support towards the cost of gown hire and 1 photograph for your graduation upon successful completion of your course.

For online support, you can access Blackbullion. Services include - interactive, bite-sized financial lessons, helping you to master your money from pre-enrolment to graduation and beyond. Topics include budgeting, savings and debt management alongside a Student Loan repayment calculator.

 

How to apply

You do not need to apply for this Bursary but you should contact the Student Financial Support team and provide written confirmation of your care experienced or estrangement status from your care/key worker, personal adviser or local council. 


What is the bursary worth

This Bursary provides up to £1,500 in each academic year of your course. 

Who is eligible to apply

UK Undergraduate students - you must be a current undergraduate student at the University and meet our definition of a Care Experienced or Estranged student to qualify. Available to undergraduate students of any subject.

In order to be considered for this Bursary you must meet our definition of a Care Experienced or Estranged student: someone who has spent time in the care of their local authority/had experience of the care system, is studying their first degree course (regardless of whether you have obtained a lesser award at a different institution), is registered on a first-time full-time undergraduate course, is classed as a Home student and who is under the age of 25 at the start of their course.
