Looking for part time or vacation work to complement your studies?

Careers can help you find work, check your CV, Covering Letter, Application Form and even provide support on creating a professional LinkedIn profile to put you in the very best position when applying. There are a wealth of student jobs in the Reading area; typical employers include shops, restaurants, events companies, as well as tutoring companies, Reading Students' Union and the University itself. In a few weeks you may find yourself working as an Open Day Ambassador, an assistant in the Co-op or in a swanky hotel. This is your chance to earn some extra money and get some valuable experience.

Where should I start?
Login into MyJobsOnline to view part-time roles in the local area. Use the filtering options under ‘Opportunity Type’ to select ‘Part Time Work’ or ‘Vacation Work’. Take a look at the positions - what interests you? What did you have the right skills/experiences for? What works for your schedule? Part-time jobs on campus can be found via Campus Jobs.  Find out more about Campus Jobs and register today.

If you are an international student you will need to get a National Insurance Number from the Government for when you start work. This number is different from your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) or Visa number, but the good news is it’s completely free, find out more.

What next?

The majority of positions ask for you to submit a CV and Covering Letter or complete an online application form. Whether you have never had a CV or just to dust off your existing one we have plenty of advice on creating a professional CV and covering letter for your applications. We can also help with preparing for that all important interview and any general employment questions.  Take a look at our self-help information and come in to speak with us if you have further question - book your appointment via MyJobsOnline.

Can I look elsewhere for part-time work?
Yes! The Reading Students' Union website includes on-campus jobs with the students’ union. And the Oracle hosts its own vacancy website for shops and restaurants located in the shopping centre.

William Arthur Ward

It gave me more confidence in regards to my part time job and it's importance on my CV when making an application. I would not have seen the true value of my work otherwise and would not have explained it in a way that is appealing to future employers.
