Connecting to Wi-Fi
Please note: you cannot connect to halls Wi-Fi before you have completed your student registration process and collected your Campus Card.
Fast, free Wi-Fi is available in all halls, delivering access to the university services and internet via the Eduroam secure access service.
More information on how to configure computers and devices to connect to Eduroam is available on the DTS Wifi page.
Connecting to the Wired Network
You can connect your computer or games console to the internet using the network cable available to collect from your Hall Group Reception. Please note that for games consoles you will also need to log there to our network (see ‘Your Devices’ below for more information).
To connect, plug one end of the network cable into the data port socket on the wall. Then plug the other end of the cable into the network socket on your device. You will be prompted to register and setup a username and password for the Glide network service. You will not be able to connect your devices to the wired connection until you have done this. Do not use your University username and password.
Visit 'Get Connected' for further information or please contact the Halls Hotline on 0800 029 1984.
Your Devices
Whilst we know you’ll want to bring certain devices from home to make your student life easier, we don’t want you to be disappointed when your items won’t connect to our wi-fi.
Devices such as the Amazon Echo and Google Home do not support the network connection used by Eduroam, our wi-fi network. This is because most home networks only require a password to connect but our wi-fi required both a username and a password.
If you’re thinking about bringing a wireless printer or speakers to halls, these also may not work on our wi-fi network. We would recommend using a USB connection for all personal printers and speakers to ensure that your devices are not discoverable to others in the building; for more information click here.
For devices such as games consoles, you will need to log devices to our network. Instructions on how to do so can be found here.
IT Support
You can find the IT Service Desk on the First Floor of the library for any support and requests.
TV licences
Due to recent changes in legislation, in most cases you will now need to purchase a TV licence. We therefore advise you to check the website to find out how to apply and pay. You can also call 0300 790 6131.
